Un-Caffeinated

Daniel Jackson frantically searched his office for what he was in dire need of. “Grrr, where is it? I know I bought some a couple of days ago,” he muttered.

As he continued his search someone knocked on the door and without waiting for a response entered. Daniel spared a glance toward the door and then went back to his search. It was only Jack, nothing to worry about as long as he didn’t touch anything.

“What ch’ya doing Dannyboy?” Jack asked as he made his way over to Daniel’s desk and sat in his chair.

Without stopping what he was doing Daniel replied, “What does it look like I’m doing? I’m looking for something and put that down please.”

Jack grinned as he continued to play with the artifact, “What are you looking for?” he asked not so innocently.

Daniel must have noticed his tone because the next thing he knew Daniel had grabbed the artifact and was staring at him, “Where is it, Jack?”

Falling into his dumb Colonel routine Jack answered, “Where’s what Daniel? I have no idea what you are looking for.” He tried to make a dash toward the door but Daniel was closer and quicker, Jack had nowhere to run.

“I think you do, Jack,” Daniel started, his voice getting gradually louder until he was yelling, “Now tell me where my coffee is!”

Jack cringed and told him, “Janet took it away. She said you were drinking too much and not sleeping enough.”

Daniel growled and stormed out the door no doubt in search of Janet or a source of coffee. Jack just stood where he was for several minutes. “I can face the Goa’uld everyday and survive endless battles but I can’t keep one thing from Daniel. I am so pathetic,” Jack thought as he left Daniel’s office. “Then again an un-caffeinated Daniel is scarier than most Goa’uld.”

Janet could hear the footsteps echoing through the hall. She didn’t even have to look up when she heard a knock on the door. As the door opened she spoke monotonously, “Yes, Daniel?”

Daniel didn’t waste any time, “Where’s my coffee, Janet?”

Looking up Janet came face to face with a very pissed, grouchy and half awake Daniel, “It’s gone I threw it out.”

Daniel was getting angrier by the second, “Why would you do that? I need my coffee.”

“That’s exactly what you said about the sarcophagus and you survived without that. You go a couple of weeks without it and I might let you have it back, if you can control yourself,” Daniel tried to break in here but failed. “It may be just coffee but it is still an addiction.

Daniel grumbled under his breath and went storming off toward the commissary. They had coffee there and it wasn’t as if they could stop him from drinking any, right?

~~~
Daniel entered the commissary to see two SF’s guarding the coffee. Mumbling in Abydonian Daniel headed toward them. He got within two feet of the coffee pots when the SF’s stopped him.
“Sorry, Dr. Jackson but we are under strict orders to not allow you access to the coffee.”
“Can’t I have just a little?” Daniel asked. The SF shook his head. “Not even a smidgen?”
“Sorry Dr. Jackson.”
Daniel returned to his office 20 minutes later in despair. Janet had told everyone he couldn’t have coffee so he hadn’t been able to get any out of anyone. Sitting at his desk Daniel dejectedly began to sort through the things he had to translate.
Once he had it semi-organized he pushed it all into a corner of his desk. Picking up a magazine he muttered, “It’s not like I’m going to awake enough to concentrate on it.” Relaxing Daniel read his magazine.
Unfortunately he couldn’t concentrate on it and was soon pacing his office muttering, “Where can I find some coffee? Who could I talk into getting me some....Teal’c, no he follows orders...Sam, no she would probably agree with Janet.” Before his insane muttering could continue farther there was a knock on his door. Daniel hoped for a second it was Janet with coffee saying she changed her mind but Janet never did that. His dashed hopes were confirmed when he saw Teal’c at the door.
Sighing Daniel let him in, “Yes, Teal’c? Did you need something?” He cringed when his voice came out far snappier then he had intended. “I shouldn’t be taking it out on Teal’c; it wasn’t his fault after all,” Daniel thought.
“No I do not require anything Daniel Jackson. I merely wished to make sure you were all right,” Teal’c replied with the raise of his eyebrow.
“I’m fine Teal’c, why wouldn’t I be?”
Teal’c seemed to be getting nervous and Daniel couldn’t figure out why. “No reason Daniel Jackson. Dr. Frasier took what I had said about your coffee intake under consideration and I am told she took it away.”
Daniel pondered over the words Teal’c had said, “He was responsible...grrrr.....seems I do have a right to be snappish with him.” Daniel thought.
“You told Janet something and she took away my coffee! Why would you do that Teal’c? Do you not know how long I work? I need that to stay awake!” By the end of it Daniel was yelling.
Teal’c only rose his eyebrow higher, “I only intended to help Daniel Jackson.”
Daniel’s only response before he turned back to his desk was, “Help?! Indeed!”
Teal’c took the hint and left quietly, pulling the door shut behind him.
He felt betrayed. Daniel couldn’t believe Teal’c would rat on him. “He did think he was helping,” Daniel said aloud. Picking up a translation Daniel began to work slowly.
Major Samantha Carter sat in her office with the lights off. There was nothing to do and she was so bored. Sam didn’t dare go see what Daniel was up to. Teal’c had told her his reaction to finding out that he had had something to do with Daniel’s coffee being taken away. Sam had no intentions of having Daniel find out she had had something to do with it too.
Jumping when she heard someone at the door Sam laughed, “What’s funny, Carter?” asked the Colonel as he entered.
Shaking her head she replied, “Nothing, sir, just thinking about how Daniel would react if he knew it was both of us too and not just Teal’c. You know that got his coffee taken away.”
Jack raised an eyebrow, “You think that would be funny? Even I wouldn’t be laughing. I’d probably run for cover.”
Sam wanted to laugh again but she knew Jack was being serious. “Yeah, you’re probably right. Daniel mad is pretty damn scary.” Jack mumbled his agreement and Sam could have sworn she heard something about rather facing a Goa’uld.
Neither really wanted to see Daniel pissed off. The last person to piss him off royally had ended up in the infirmary with a broken nose because Daniel had been fed up with how they were treating him and had decked him.
General Hammond sat in his desk looking at his inbox. It had been one week since Janet had ordered Daniel’s coffee away and he had received one complaint after another. Sighing, the General picked up what he had expected to a translation to an alien artifact found on PX5-2Z6 by Sg-5. Opening the folder he frowned, there was nothing it but a note that read....
‘Linguist on strike! No coffee No translations!’
George Hammond chuckled a little, in all the years he had worked with Daniel Jackson, he would never had expected this to happen. From Jack O’Neill, yes; Daniel Jackson, no. “I don’t believe this.” He thought. “We need those translations done.” Sighing again he picked up the phone and dialed the Colonel. Jack who had actually been in his office working answered immediately.
“Yes?”
“Colonel O’Neill, please report to my office. We have a matter to discuss.” That was all General Hammond said before hanging up.
Recognizing the voice as General Hammond Jack made his way to the man’s office, puzzled. He hadn’t done anything wrong. Upon entering Jack was told to sit. “What’s going on, General?” Jack inquired.
To his surprise George smiled, “At ease Colonel. You’re not in trouble. I need you to talk to your teammate.”
Jack nodded, “Which one would that be?”
By now they were both smiling. Passing the note to Jack, George spoke, “I think you know who I mean.”
Jack looked up from the note, his smile growing, “Yes sir. I know exactly who you mean. I will talk to him immediately.”
General Hammond nodded his smile not quite large as Jack’s as he spoke, “Then that will be all Colonel. Dismissed.”
Jack left the office with the note in hand. He didn’t think General Hammond would miss it and he had to show Sam it before he went to talk to Daniel. Daniel was being stubborn, not a good thing. Nothing could change his mind when he set it to something.
“Hi sir,” Sam said as she passed Jack in the hallway.
“Perfect,” Jack thought. “Now I won’t have to go all the way to her lab.” Aloud he called out, “Carter, come here I need to talk to you.”
Brow furrowed in confusion Sam walked back over to Jack, “What about, sir?”
Jack’s smile returned, “Look at what Daniel wrote and handed into the General as a translation.”
Sam took the note and read it, “Are you serious? He actually gave this to General Hammond.”
Jack nodded, “Yeah, he put it in a folder instead of the translation. He learns well.”
Sam shook her head, “This is from hanging around with you for seven years.”
Jack feigned hurt, “Are you saying this is all my fault?”
“Yes, you’ve corrupted him,” Sam replied as a smile grew on her face.
Jack shook his head, “Whatever you say Carter. Just remember that you were involved in the removal of his coffee so it is your fault too.” Sam just nodded and starting walking down the hall. Jack laughed aloud as he continued on his way to Daniel’s office. “He’s finally learning something,” he thought. The only problem was how do you un-teach a stubborn archeologist once you’ve gotten the bad habits drilled into his head?
The End maybe
